In the ethereal realm of dance music, TDJ stands out as a true luminary, crafting a sonic universe where melancholy blends with a bittersweet euphoria. Geneviève Ryan-Martel, known as TDJ, fuses years of guitar ballad composition with an in-depth exploration of electronic production. Drawing inspiration from both trance classics and the raw emotion of emo, her art transcends genres.
From an early stage, Geneviève built a strong connection with France through the Casual Gabberz collective. There, she unveiled her first track under the name TDJ, “Can’t Stop Ravin,” as part of their Christmas compilation Meilleurs Vœux III.
Her debut EP, TDJ001, was released in 2020 on the Montreal-based label Collection Disques Durs. It was quickly followed by TDJ002, an explosive eurodance EP driven by standout tracks “Lalala (Want Somebody)” and “Open Air.” The project received praise from Trax Magazine and Tsugi, and led to remixes by X-COAST, Panteros666, and DJ HEARTSTRING.
In 2022, TDJ released her first mixtape, TDJ123, a carefully curated blend of her most notable tracks and new compositions. The following year, she unveiled the EP BACK TO 123, further deepening her universe, somewhere between rave nostalgia and hypnotic electronic textures.
Her audiovisual project SPF INFINI, praised by Pitchfork in the article “Trance Is Back — and It’s No Joke,” marked a turning point. It explores the profound disconnection between humans and their environment.
