ORELSAN (Hip-Hop - FR)
A young rapper from Caen, OrelSan was discovered in 2008 over the Internet. More than one million surfers viewed one of their powerful home-made videos, which was somewhere between ultra geek and super freak. Scoped out by producer Skread (Booba, Diams, Nessbeal), Orelsan is a far cry from the trendy hip-hop cliches of French rap: no bling or vodka and tonic on the dancefloors of Parisian clubs. Following slightly in the footsteps of Eminem and Mike Skinner of the Streets, his lyrics describe the life of a suburban white boy lost in between lousy jobs, half-assed love affairs and Playstation. Rather materialistic and through lyrics that need to be decoded, Orelsan is right on the money with his provocation. Les Inrocks named his album the discovery of the year and singer Anais and Yelle are fans. The Ardentes are set to follow.
